-
What is the hourly rate I will be charged for my local Move? Our Hourly Rate for a Moving Van with a 3 Man crew is $138.00 per hour in Peak rates. We provide Seniors and Corporate discounts.
-
Where does the time start being charged? Most movers charge Depot to Depot travel time. Are they near you? We charge to and from our depot in Nanaimo for Nanaimo Moves and only to and from the "Scales" in Parksville for local moves in that surrounding area. This makes us your most LOCAL Mover.
-
What about overtime charges if move is over 8 hours? Is it the same rate? We pay our crews overtime but the customer hourly rate does not change unless there are exceptional circumstances.
-
Are Wardrobes and Mattress Bags included? Yes this is currently a No Charge Option.
-
Do you protect the floors in my home? Yes. This is standard procedure for our crews.
-
Are your movers covered for liability by WorkSafe BC? Yes all our crews have this coverage.
-
Are your movers covered for any accidental damage to my home (Wall, floors etc.)? Yes. Your home is covered for any accidential damage under own own comprehensive Insuance coverage at no additional charge.
-
Is there a Seniors Discount? Yes, also some additional free services to help our Seniors move successfully.
BEWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:
-
The mover doesn't offer or agree to an on-site inspection of your household goods and gives an estimate over the phone or Internet—sight-unseen. These estimates often sound too good-to-be-true. They usually are.
-
The moving company demands cash or a large deposit before the move.
-
The company's website has no local address and no information about licensing or insurance and they are not a member of a Major Canadian Van Line.
-
The mover claims all goods are covered by their insurance.
-
Offices and warehouse are in poor condition or nonexistent.
Find out how your home and items are protected. Most companies will shrink-wrap your sofa and provide a free blanket wrap service; smaller companies may charge for this service. Make sure you keep an accurate list of all your items, number of boxes, single pieces and odds and ends.
If you require storage, ask the company if they provide warehouse and container storage service. Usually, the larger companies do and this can save you time and money. It's a good idea to check out the storage facility beforehand.
The Consumer Checklist for Choosing a Moving Company
The Consumer Checklist for Choosing a Moving Company (hereafter the "Consumer Checklist") and the associated Good Practice Guidelines for Canadian Movers were prepared by a multi-stakeholder working group consisting of government, business, and consumer group representatives and academics, under the leadership of the Office of Consumer Affairs, Industry Canada.
The Good Practice Guidelines for Canadian Movers and the Consumer Checklist were developed to complement legal protections already in place. It is hoped that the existence of the guidelines and the checklist will assist movers in identifying and adhering to high standards and will aid consumers in selecting reputable, ethical and professional movers.

Whether moving across town or across the country, nearly a third of consumers choose a professional moving company to assist with their relocation. Movers are one of the top categories of companies searched on the Better Business Bureau website. BBB serving Vancouver Island is reminding people to take precautions and be a wise consumer when hiring a moving company.
In the past year, BBB serving Vancouver Island saw more than 16,800 inquiries from consumers looking to hire a mover and received 36 complaints against moving companies from customers. Complaints against movers ranked fourth of the top industries that received complaints last year. Common complaints included damaged or missing items, bills that were higher than estimated, late deliveries and in some cases, goods being held hostage for additional payments.
“Moving can be difficult and stressful even in the best of times,” said Rosalind Scott, President & CEO of BBB serving Vancouver Island. “But if you check with BBB before hiring, contact references, understand how the moving process works, your contract with the moving business, and have adequate moving insurance, there should be few, if any, surprises.”

A wrong choice in the selection of a moving company to move a lifetime’s worth of household possessions can be disastrous. Scam operators will take advantage of consumers by offering cut-rate prices, making unrealistic promises, inflating the price on moving day and holding the household possessions for ransom. These con artists take no responsibility for the level of service delivered. If a mover’s offer looks and sounds too good to be true, it is. Buyer Beware!
Why take the chance? Find reputable movers you can trust through CAM.
